            Hooper Bay Covenant Church - Pastor Grant Funk

            Brief History
            Hooper Bay is located 20 miles south of Cape Romanzof, 25 miles south of Scammon Bay in the Yukon-Kiskokwim Delta. The city is separated into two sections: a heavily built-up townsite located on gently rolling hills, and a newer section in the lowlands. It lies at approximately 61 degrees 31' N Latitude, 166 degrees 05' W Longitude (Sec. 26, T017N, R093W, Seward Meridian). The community is located in the Bethel Recording District. The area encompasses 9 sq. miles of land and 0 sq. miles of water

            "Askinuk" or "Askinaghamiut" are the early Eskimo names for Hooper Bay. The village was first report in 1878 by E.W. Nelson of the U.S. Signal Service. The 1890 Census found 138 persons living in 14 homes. The name Hooper Bay came into common usage after a post office with this name was established in 1934. The present-day Eskimo name "Naparagmiut" means "stake village people". 

            Pastor Profile 
            Pastor Grant and Lenna Funk have a heart for children and their welfare. They often take foster children into their home, even though they have six of their won. Grant was baptized in 1964 at Cane Creek Baptist Church. He has been serving in the Covenant Church since 1999. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1992 from Alaska Bible College. He is also a licensed pilot and emergency medical technician. He served on the ECCAK General Council from 2002-2005. He has developed a youth ministry called Warriors on Wheels, taking youth on a three-week road trip to the lower 48 immersing them in discipleship training with Ron Hutchraft's Native ministry "On Eagles Wings".
